Why the internet is so slow??
The answer is simple. The connection of internet is slow because of maximum usage of DC++…
Internet connection in UTP can be basically represented by the diagram below.
- The red line from internet to world represents the connection from UTP to world internet. (yahoo, google, friendster, etc)
- The purple, blue, pink, red and yellow represent the connection from village 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 server to UTP’s server.
- The activities that contribute to the increase of this percentage are thr DC++ and online gaming by UTP students.
- This traffic percentage is in critical stage since it almost reached 100% and this has worried the ITMS department.
- The collision also occur when we are using DC++ and at the same time surf internet. This is the reason why internet connection becomes very-very slow.
- If we can decrease the traffic percentage from 96% to 80% or less, the internet connection will become better and faster.
- How can we increase the internet speed? By not downloading too many stuff on the DC++
Situation 1
Both student A is from village 1 and student B is from village 4 want to download file from village 2 via DC++ and at the same time student C who lives at village 2 wants to surf internet. These activities can cause the collision of the connection. DC++ and internet are using the same ‘highways’, then traffic jam of the network can occur.
Situation 2
Student X and student Y live at village 5. Student X wants to download a folder, which contains more than 1G bytes of capacity from DC++ and at the same time, student Y wants to surf internet. These two activities can cause traffic jam of the highway and as a result, the internet network becomes slower.
Advice from ITMS
- Student should download the file from his/her village only. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL to download any file from another village.
- Minimize your download.
- DO NOT download a big size of file in bulk .For example, do not download one folder of prison break season 2(12.43GiB) in one time. Download just one or two episode first. After you finish watch it, download another episode.
- DO NOT download many file before you sleep and let your DC++ running until you wake up.(This habit will affect other student connection seriously)
- minimize your slot (optional)
- In the two weeks, ITMS will observe the graph of internet connection and we hope that the percentage of DC++ usage will decrease from the critical state.
- NEVER SHARE PORN! ITMS has the capability to trace the person who shares porn files. Further serious action will be taken into account. ITMS has traced and caught these people before, and is not reluctant to do this again.
Advise from MPPUTP 07/08
- Think wisely before you download. Do not just simply click because your one wrong click can effect the internet connection.
- We MPPUTP07/08 hope that many UTP students will give their feedback and respond about this matter. Let voices and ideas be heard by us.
- If you have any problem about security and network, do not hesitate to email us at any time.
This article was prepared together by Husaini and Azreen, Rakan Exco of the Welfare department; under the supervision of the Welfare Exco I & II of MPPUTP 0708. Information stated in this article was told directly by the ITMS department to the welfare department of MPPUTP in the meetings attended by both parties.

Aha finally i see some interesting stuff from you guys LoL.
I don't wish to argue about using DC will slow down the Net and blax3 (watsoever).
My suggestion for all the current DC users in UTP to limit the bandwidth tranfer. Use client that support these feature which is (ApexDC++ , StrongDC++ and BDC++) where you can imposed bandwidth limitation for upload download. My preferable is to set it at 2Mbul/2Mbdl. This is enough.
In my experience pr0n blocking cannot be done automatically . SO it's up to the so called tawkeh DC tu manually monitor around the file sharing that is available on the Network. Log all the TTH files so that you can create an automated filter for the future.
Those who do not abide the rules you can just drop/kick/filter em out by strict firewall rules.
Yeah and using pirated software is wrong. But seriously we are in the middle of nowhere and the price of those software are fsck pricey. (Unless of course if you like to follow the path of software freedom which is another case).
Study hard study smart..
Kudos!!
The answer is simple. The connection of internet is slow because of maximum usage of DC++… <--r u sure bout dis? do u make case study?
i guess.. v5 resident, having all the crap too when all the server down.. mirc down, dcpp down, battlenet down, we still got slow internet connection..
me just noob.. but i wanna loud out my opinion...
our dns server 160.0.226.202
internet..
our pc -> dns -> our pc
our pc -> dcpp server -> our pc
theres no way dcpp server provide internet..so i think.. no way cuz of dcpp server.. our internet connection congest..
ntah.. juz my opinion.. sape2 expert.. mari la kite bincang2..
pergh~ tak sangka plak dc++ leh buat internet slow!
The main question is, why does DC++ exists in UTP in the 1st place? It is because intervillage connection has been blocked.
Human has brain, they will find one way or another to connect with each other. Human NEED to communicate for a good reason. To share information and communicate etc. When the MiRC can no longer send files between villages..they find alternative which is DC++. So who created the initiative to set up DC++?
One more thing is "online gaming by UTP students". Pls don't joke arround. With the speed of the connection in UTP, it is IMPOSSIBLE to play online gaming. Please define what u all mean by online gaming.
From what I know, intervillage was blocked to prevent undecent material being spread over the network. (correct me if i'm wrong) But as I said earlier..one way or another, the material will spread whether u like it or not.
Dear MPP, read this ->

apsl friendster pn da kne block nih?
salam
hi there! long time not hearing news from utp. anyway, seems like mpp has taken a great job in solving one of the student's problems. internet/network plays a major role for utpian for daily routines (watch movies, play games, etc). i hope that u guys will be able to collaborate with kagesenshi regarding this matter. this guy has a better view about this. visit his site at http://blog.kagesenshi.org/
that's all. tata~
when will the report bout wireless from MPP is gonna publish in this blog? if LAN, yeah maybe it's slow coz of DC++
how bout the wireless connection? is there any explanation of difficulty getting wireless connection these few weeks?
Thank You MPP. U did make a move on trying to improve the bad internet connection . I wonder why in MMU Cyberjaya, they got good internet connection and they also have this file sharing sytem called cyber trekker. Their wireless also good. Why in UTP there is so hard to have a good internet connection. And when wireless came to UTP I tot its gonna solve this. But its as bad as LAN. Is it UTP hacker is so good and MMU hacker are noobs. I think MMU students learn lots if IT. So what is the real problem here?. I suggest MPP do research with pros. Do own research instead of forwarding the excuses. We all need good internet. Thanks.
isu netwerk ni isu lapok yg da basi.dah berkurun lama student fight for their right yet itms still in denial.Coba la tgk setup utp lagu mana.IP address scheme utk LAN pon kantoi.Gateway brejuta kali broadcast packet utk apa pon x tau smpai congested traffic.Setting gateway byk x fine tune utk cope usage utk satu uni.Barang2 mahal2 gempak2 tp delivery hancor.Even di unitar byk yg opensource smpai proxy depa pon pkai squid tp x timboi masalah2 congested.senario peperangan antara student da itms da macam perang salib da.masing2 saling tuduh menuduh tapi habok pon tarak.Lecturer gempak2 menang award sana sini tp ada itms refer kt depa? apa guna ada lecturer yg hebat tp x di hargai.Politik itms yg sekian lama membolot bandwidth utp mesti dihentikan.Pakatan student dan lecturer vs itms mesti direalisasikan.Smpai bila nk dok lagu ni ja.ITMS bukan semua yg xle pakai.Dalam ITM$ pon ada politik nya yg busuk jugak. So final quote is if there is a limitation search for workaround.May the force be with all of u
we're not really utilize what we have..
hurm.. waiting for the 11th april meeting.. and would like to know who is the kumpulan pelajar :)
